About

Dare & Hier Media was founded by Peter Dare and Emma Hier with the aim of creating a simple and cost-effective way of commissioning high quality photography irrespective of location, length of assignment or end use of images.

Using our combined 30 years of photography experience and UK-wide network of talented photographers, we provide a streamlined commissioning process. This includes collaborating on the concept and brief when required, fully inclusive pricing, the photography itself, simple online access to all your images and even the long-term back-up of high resolution files.

Dare & Hier Media’s clients benefit from these ideals whether they are seasoned design and imaging professionals or new to the photography commissioning process. We apply the same care, principles and attention to detail for every assignment whether it is a huge multi-location project or a single portrait.

Our Approach

We offer one central point of contact irrespective of the assignment location. This applies before, during and after your assignment. Dare & Hier Media has a UK-wide network of high quality photographers, so even the most out-of-the-way locations present no difficulties.

A clear photographic brief is essential and we can work with you on this to ensure we capture not only what you need, but also what you would like, thereby maximising the value of your investment in photography. We can even provide a standing photography brief documenting best practice which can be particularly useful for clients with multiple offices around the UK and a requirement for continuity and adherence to brand guidelines.

When we quote for photography it will always be a fully inclusive price. It will include not only the photography, but also travel time and expenses, uploading of the images to a private secure online area, access to all the high resolution files, any ‘normal’ post production adjustments, and full media usage rights. It also includes full back up of your high resolution files. There are no nasty surprises when the invoice arrives, we will always deliver on time and within budget.

Our on-line image access system will allow you to see all the images you have commissioned. If you commission us several times you will see each of your assignments in the same place. They will remain online indefinitely as a form of online archive for you. You also have the ability to share these assignments, or specific sets of pictures, with colleagues without them seeing entire shoots or other assignments. Your high resolution files are also backed up off line on mirrored RAID formation servers in 2 different geographical locations.

Peter Dare : Co-Founder

With over 30 years of experience in the photographic industry Peter began his career in the heady days of Fleet Street running a busy news desk for a major photo agency providing pictures to the world's press. He was central in establishing that agency as a member of the Royal Rota which provided official access to photograph royal events of all types including arranging press photography for several royal weddings, state funerals and other key ceremonial occasions. Consulting with, and trusted by, the House of Lords and the Judiciary he was also allowed unique photographic access in these sensitive areas.

Natural progression led him to his main area of interest which is commercial assignment photography. For 10 years he has worked with many blue chip companies such as EDF Energy, Santander, BUPA, Laing O’Rourke, Epson and Barclays. He not only provides a wide range of photography throughout the UK and overseas but works with clients to help establish ‘best practice’ in their photography assignments and ensures clients get value for money from their investment in photography.

Peter has worked with clients such as EDF Energy on multiple assignments throughout the bidding process, run up and actual event of the London 2012 Olympics. He has also worked with O2 on their 3 year ‘It’s Your Community’ programme and has the experience and knowledge to handle projects of any size and any number of locations.

Emma Hier : Co-Founder

After graduating with a First Class Honours Degree in photography Emma began her career in photography at the celebrity agency Stay Still and has over 14 years experience in the photography industry.

At Stay Still she quickly became a key member of the team selling exclusive imagery to magazines and newspapers and with the onset of digital photography she managed the digitisation of the archive and became heavily involved in image retouching. This included working on images of celebrities and imagery for picture publicity campaigns for shows such as Spooks and Goodbye Mr Chips. When the agency was subsequently acquired by Photoshot she took on the production for creating styled, high-end speculative portrait shoots of talent, generating exclusive imagery for the agency to sell. She worked alongside publicists for key broadcasters such as the BBC & ITV and independent production companies. Projects have included shoots with the cast of the hugely successful series Mistresses (Ecosse Films) and doing specials on the set of Call the Midwife (BBC).

In the last few years Emma’s role evolved to work exclusively on commissioned shoots. Utilising her experience, organisational skills, contacts and Photoshop skills to co-ordinate and produce projects big and small she has worked with corporate clients, design agencies, PR’s and broadcasters. This has included working on complex projects for brands such as Bupa, Barclays, Epson and Reading University.

Committed to each and every project she always gives 100%, takes pride in what she does and loves nothing more than a happy client.
